Matthew Halsall, composer, trumpeter, producer, DJ and founder of Gondwana Records, has visited Madrid (El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze) and Barcelona (La Nau) to present live Salute To The Sun, his first album as a leader since Into Forever (2015 ). He went on accompanied by a new band, formed by bassist Gavin Barras, a longtime Halsall collaborator, and a group of young Manchester musicians such as Matt Cliffe (flute and saxophone), Maddie Herbert (harp) Liviu Gheorghe (piano), Alan Taylor (drums) and Jack McCarthy (percussion).
Call & Play has been the supplier of the necessary instruments in both concerts, highlighting among them the elegant figure of the pedal harp Salvi Diana.
Matthew Halsall has created something unique from Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders' British jazz and spiritual jazz heritage, with influences from world and electronic music.
