We can speak of almost normality in the celebration of Jazz festivals in Euskadi during this summer of 2021.
From June 30 to July 4, the Getxo Jazz International Festival has returned, in its 44th edition, with a program marked by the proximity of the participating groups and artists. It has adapted to the times without losing the usual quality and diversity in this event. There have been 17 concerts in the Muxikebarri center and the Bihotz Alai square.
From July 14 to 18, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival has also celebrated its 44th edition. It has brought together great artists from the jazz scene, including Itamar Borochov and Kathrine Windfeld. The concerts have taken place at the Iradier Arena, although the festival intends to return to Mendizorroza next year.
For its part, the Jazzaldia festival has recovered its international dimension and has offered 60 concerts from July 21 to 25, two of them located for the first time in the Chillida Leku museum. Among others, artists such as Brad Mehldau, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Kenny Barron, Dave Douglas, Noa, Jorge Pardo, Buika, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Bill Frisell, José James, Chucho Valdés and Marc Ribot have performed.
In all these festivals Call & Play has worked from its headquarters in Euskadi. ETB has dedicated us a brief report describing our work, which we share in this link:
