The Vodafone Mexefest 2011, which took place at different venues in Lisbon 2 and 3 December, received good reviews and attracted sizable audiences. The festival, which is a showcase for up and coming Portuguese indie bands but also features well-known international groups, fills the centre ofLisbonwith music for two days. Many types of venue are used: cinemas, theatres, hotels, restaurants, buses and even metro stations.
The highlights of the festival were the fantastic James Blunt at the Tivoli theatre, who made the foundations of the magnificent building vibrate, and Oh Land from Denmark, who revolutionised a sold out São Jorge Cinema with their pseudo-electronic music that includes good melodies and catchy choruses. The audience loved their stage antics and kept the band talking at the stage door for two hours while they took photos and got cherished autographs.
Call & Play provided the backline for the festival with Jorge Amezcua as coordinator and eight backline technicians, 5 of whom are fromLisbon. We would like to thank Musica no Coraçao, the organisers of the festival, for counting on us.
